No matter what the label says, we tend to think of that thick off-white stuff in the jar as Vaseline, but celebrity make-up artist, Katey Denno sheds a lot of light on that misconception. “Since petroleum jelly can be found in different grades of purity, you don’t always know how non-toxic your petroleum based-beauty products really are. Petroleum jelly can create the illusion pf moisturized, hydrated skin, so while you may feel the instant gratification of a softened surface, you are actually drying out your pores by keeping out air and moisture”. Dermatologist, Dr. Alan Dattner advises, “People suffering from skin conditions like acne and rosacea should stay away from petroleum jelly altogether, since such thick emollients can aggravate those conditions.
